Ichie Abel Ozoemena Agbata (Ezeugo)

February 28, 1933 — June 25, 2026

Ezeugo was born on 28 February 1933 in the then western Nigeria region. Unfortunately his father passed away when he was only seven years old, which necessitated his mother to take him and his two other siblings back to Awka where he was raised. He was educated up to school certificate level and moved to Port Harcourt for work, although he returned to Awka following the outbreak of the civil war. Shortly after the war, he left for Lagos in search of work and was identified as a special talent and enrolled into the technical training programme at the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). He excelled in his training and successfully graduated to become an engineering technician. A role he performed at various levels for many years starting out in Lagos before moving to NRC Enugu where he retired in 1994 after a distinguished and accomplished career. Today, we mourn not just the passing of Ezeugo, but we celebrate his extraordinary life. A man whose presence lit up our world, whose love shaped our hearts and whose legacy will echo through generations. Ezeugo’s life was typified through his generosity for those who knew him and his aversion to injustice. He was a man of immense strength, not just in body but also in character. He was hardworking and determined. He rose each day with purpose, never compromising on his values. To him, integrity was not just a word, it was a lifestyle. Our father loved his children. He cared for his family and community and gave selflessly to others. Even in the face of challenges, he remained steadfast in his faith and belief in God. He embodied values of integrity, sacrifice and respect. He was never one to complain or give into despair. Instead, he faced every life’s challenge with courage, grace, and trusting God. His unshakable faith in God was his anchor through all his life’s challenges and setbacks. The story of his life is one characterised by tragedy, endeavour and triumph. He used the circumstances of a difficult early life as a fuel to overcome whatever barriers he encountered and build a life that has secured his legacy. It has taught us a valuable life lesson that life offers no free gifts. Hard work, determination, delayed gratification and unwavering faith in God will eventually reap rewards. As we reflect on his life, we are filled with nothing but gratitude for the good life he lived and the unforgettable memories he created with us. They will remain with us for the rest of our lives. Mpoo as we fondly call you, thank you for being our father. Thank you for protecting and loving us unconditionally. We miss you more than words can describe but we promise to honour your memory by continuing to live a life that reflects the goodness you poured into us. We are immensely proud and grateful for everything you did for us. Sleep well Ezeugo until we meet again in heaven. Rest well Mpoo! Rest in peace Ezeugo! Children of late Ichie Abel Ozoemena Agbata
