Mark Gilbert
September 5, 1969 — April 5, 2026
Mark Husband Gilbert, a beloved son, brother, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, surrounded by the natural beauty of Antelope Island State Park. Born on September 5, 1969, in Bountiful, Utah, Mark was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout his 56 years of life. His loving spirit will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
Mark was the cherished son of Wayne Gilbert and Leah (Jackie) Reynolds Purdy. He was reunited in peace with his parents, his stepmother Caroldyn Gilbert, and stepfather David Purdy, all of whom predeceased him. His legacy lives on through the loved ones he leaves behind, including his devoted wife of 24 years, Shelly Monk Gilbert; his brothers Charlies "Chuck," Steve (Marilynn), and Kevin (Cheri) Gilbert; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Green. Mark also shared a close bond with his neighbor Shawn (Valerie) McBride, whose friendship he treasured.
Mark and Shelly's journey together began on January 11, 2002, when they exchanged vows in Tooele, Utah, embarking on a life filled with love and shared adventures. Mark's career spanned 26 years with FedEx Freight, where he was known for his dedication and camaraderie. He retired on December 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and friendship.
An avid outdoorsman, Mark found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly his love for camping along the Pony Express Trails. These trips were often shared with friends and family, where the air was filled with laughter as they collected firewood and rode ATVs. Mark's passion for golf was seamlessly integrated into these adventures, as he and his brother Kevin, along with Cheri, explored Utah State Parks, combining their love for the sport with the thrill of camping.
Mark's life was enriched by the moments spent with his brothers. His adventures with Steve and Mare, where they would get lost in the beauty of nature and pick wildflowers, brought endless joy and laughter. The bond with his brother Chuck was sustained through their long, heartfelt phone conversations, a connection that now leaves a poignant silence, but also a treasure trove of memories.
Mark was known for his unwavering willingness to help others. Whether family, friends, or strangers, he was always ready to lend a hand, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion that touched countless lives. His warmth and kindness were a beacon of light to those around him, creating a legacy of love and service that will forever be remembered.
In honoring Mark's life, we celebrate the qualities that made him truly remarkable: his generous heart, his adventurous spirit, and his enduring love for those he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
A celebration of life will be held in Mark's honor, where family and friends will gather to share stories and celebrate the profound impact he had on their lives. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family wants all to remember Mark through memories that have been gained throughout each cherished moment.
Mark Gilbert will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Mark. Your life was a blessing, and you will remain forever in our hearts.
