It is with profound sadness that the family of Howard Robert Kast shares the news of his passing on April 30, 2026, at the age of 89. Howard departed this world peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 25, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, Howard was the beloved son of Robert and Adele Kast. He grew up in a nurturing home, where he developed a lifelong passion for music and craftsmanship. Howard's early years were spent in the vibrant community of Cleveland, where he attended Collinwood High School. His talent and enthusiasm shone brightly as a dedicated member of the marching band, and All Ohio State Fair Boys Marching Band an experience that sparked his enduring love for music. Howard devoted 35 years of his professional life to General Electric at Nela Park, where he excelled as a tool and die maker. His meticulous attention to detail and innovative spirit left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company's legacy. Beyond his career, Howard's life was enriched by his involvement in several cherished organizations. As an active member of Euclid Beach Park Now, he delighted in sharing stories of the old Euclid Beach Park, where his passion for history and community spirit resonated with many. He was also a dedicated member of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society and the Carousel Organ Association of America. Howard and his beloved wife, Janice, found great joy in participating with their own hand-cranked organs, bringing nostalgic melodies to life. Howard was a familiar and friendly face at Playhouse Square, where he volunteered as a "Red Coat," welcoming patrons with warmth and kindness. His contributions to the arts community were both valued. Howard's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to Janice, his cherished partner of 66 years. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter, music, and shared memories. Howard was a proud father to his daughter, Ellen Bibeault, and her husband, Paul. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Andrea Schneck (Trevor), Matthew Tarach, Daeli Parker (Denver), and Matthew Bibeault, and as a great-grandfather to five adoring great-grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his brother, Dale A. Kast, and his sister-in-law, Linda. Howard's life was marked by both joy and sorrow, having been predeceased by his parents and his beloved 17-year-old son, David. Yet, his resilience and love for those around him remained unwavering. A private celibration of life will be held to honor Howard's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, whose compassionate care provided comfort to Howard and his family in his final days. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve and the Slovene Home Care Facility for their unwavering support and kindness. Howard Robert Kast will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of love, compassion, and creativity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
