In Loving Memory of Howard Edward Dempsey, Sr. Howard Edward Dempsey, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at home on October 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with heart disease. Born on December 17, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Howard's life was a testament to love, devotion, and resilience. Howard was the cherished son of the late William Robert Dempsey and Dorothy Elizabeth Mayer Dempsey. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Daniel Dempsey and Robert George Dempsey, with whom he shared many fond memories. In July of 1965, Howard married the love of his life, Betty Glatt Dempsey. Together, they built a beautiful life, blessed with three wonderful children: Sheila Dempsey Whitfield and her husband, Billy; Howard E. Dempsey, Jr., and his wife, Leanne; and Michelle Dempsey DeCamp and her husband, Dale. Howard's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren—Branson (Allie), Brennon (Hailey), Hunter Zeb (Jennah), Jonathan (Caylin), Fisher (Sydney), Whitney (Triston), and Southern Rita—and his 13 great-grandchildren, Mylee, Laine, Charl, Duncan, Cohen, Kendall, Truett, Beckett, Blakely, Emmi, Evvi, Weston, and Taryn. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them, including with his furry companion, Princess Tootsie. Howard's dedication to his country was evident through his service in the United States Army from 1962 to 1967, a period that instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and honor. After his military service, he worked diligently for Nopsi and Murphy Oil before retiring in 2005, allowing him more time to pursue his passions. An avid racing enthusiast, Howard spent many thrilling years on the dirt track, proudly driving his #44 car. His love for antique cars was matched only by his passion for fishing and shrimping. Howard enjoyed playing cards and was an enthusiastic sports fan, often spending evenings watching games on TV. Throughout his life, he was a valued member of the VFW and the Misfits Street Krewzer club, where he forged lasting friendships. Howard was a man of great warmth and generosity, known for his kindhearted nature and the joy he brought to those around him. His smile, humor, and unwavering support will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A service celebrating Howard's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Garden of Memories, located at 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Howard's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart.
