Horace "Saint" Moore

Horace "Saint" Moore, a beloved pillar of the Washington, North Carolina community, was peacefully called to his eternal resting place on September 20, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 24, 1946, to Lena King Moore and Horace Moore, Horace spent his entire life in the town that shaped him, nurturing a deep connection to the people and places he adored. A proud graduate of P.S. Jones High School, Horace dedicated his professional life to the Singer Furniture Company, where he worked diligently until his well-earned retirement. His career was marked by hard work and camaraderie with colleagues who became lifelong friends. Horace shared his life with his cherished wife, the late Deloise Roulhac Moore, crafting a home that was a sanctuary of love and laughter. Together, they raised their children with unwavering devotion, guided by their faith and love for each other. Horace was a father whose love knew no bounds, and a grandfather whose joy was multiplied by each grandchild and great-grandchild who entered his life. Horace is predeceased by his beloved wife, Deloise; his parents, Lena and Horace; his son, Charles Whitaker; his brother, Virgel Moore; and two sisters, Josie Roulhac and Lena Moore. He is survived by his beloved children, Robert Roulhac (Lynette), Patricia Ross, and Sheila Moore, all of Washington, NC, along with his adopted son, Bobby Yarrell of Troy, NY. His brother, Danny Ray Moore (Olivia), and sisters, Marie Moore and Mable Arnetta Ebron, remain to cherish his memory. Horace's family also includes his son-in-law, Reggie Ross; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Gray (Clifton) and Jean Cox; and brother-in-law, Bobby Roulhac. His legacy lives on in his eight grandchildren, Mondrell Roulhac, Omar Moore, Kristie Sparks (Brandon), Brandon Moore, Nicole Smallwood (Unique), Brittany Roulhac, Jalil Moore, and Rickie Hardy, as well as 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Horace's special friendships, including those with Ann Battle, Dallas Daniels, Harvey Parker, and Melvin Collins, were a testament to the warmth and humor he shared with those around him. To know Horace was to experience his infectious sense of humor and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. Whether he was fishing, watching horses, or grilling for family and friends, Horace embraced each moment with a lighthearted spirit. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels and found great enjoyment in the Animal Planet channel and playing the lottery. His favorite saying, "The world is mine," embodied the confidence and love of life that he shared with everyone around him.
