Horace Bailey

December 6, 1945 — September 2, 2026

Horace Bailey, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2026, at Sacred Heart Hospital, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and generosity. Born on December 6th, 1945, in Andalusia, Alabama, Horace was the cherished son of the late Austin and Catherine Bailey. A proud alumnus of Straughn High School, Horace pursued his passion for helping others at Auburn University School of Pharmacy. It was there that he honed his skills and knowledge, which would go on to serve the community of Andalusia for many years. As the owner and trusted pharmacist at City Drug Store, Horace was known for his dedication to his customers, offering not only prescriptions but heartfelt advice and support to anyone who crossed his path. Horace was a man of remarkable intelligence and generosity, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether in his professional capacity or in his personal life. His family fondly remembers him as one of the smartest and most generous people they ever knew. Horace's love for life extended beyond his profession. He found immense joy in spending time with his nieces and nephews, creating cherished memories with them on trips to Disney World. His infectious laughter and adventurous spirit will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Catherine Bailey, and his dear sisters, Rebecca McCurley and Pastine Bailey. Horace is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Annette H. Bailey, who stood by his side through life's many journeys. His surviving siblings include sister Gayle Weeks (Horace), sister Peggy Wood (Jim), and brother Jeff Bailey (Robin). He also leaves behind his loving in-laws: brother-in-law Joe Ealum (Serena), Don Herring (Marilyn), Paul Herring (Christy), sister-in-law Gail Joyner (Jesse), and Kathy Herring, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were a constant source of pride and joy for him. While the world feels a bit dimmer without Horace's radiant presence, his spirit and legacy continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Horace's compassionate and giving nature. Horace's life was a testament to the power of kindness, intelligence, and love. Though he has left this world, the impact of his life’s work and the warmth of his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
