September 13, 1956 — February 7, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Hillery James Jurney, who left this world unexpectedly on February 7, 2026, at his home in San Marcos. Born on September 13, 1956, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Hillery graced this world with his warmth and kindness for 69 cherished years. Hillery, fondly known to many as Hill, was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was the beloved son of the late Harvey James Jurney and JoAnn Jurney, and he shared a close bond with his sister, the late Ophelia Ann Busby, who predeceased him. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Radie Sumner and her husband Andrew, his brother Dan Jurney, his sister Beckie Jones and her husband Scott, and his brother John Jurney and his wife Karen. Hill's legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family, who meant the world to him. A proud graduate of Palacios High School in Palacios, Texas, Hillery's life was a testament to hard work and dedication. He spent his career as a Master Plumber, where he was known for his expertise, integrity, and the genuine care he took in his work. Hill was not just a skilled tradesman; he was a man who could fix anything, not only with his hands but also with his heart. His colleagues and clients will remember him for his unwavering honesty and the camaraderie he brought to every job. Hill found his paradise in San Marcos, a place where he cultivated not just a garden, but a life rich with friendships and memories. He had a gift for conversation and a knack for making everyone feel welcome and heard. Whether he was sharing stories over a cup of coffee or offering a helping hand, Hill's presence was a comforting one. His love for gardening was a reflection of his nurturing spirit. Hill believed in the beauty of growth and the patience it required, much like the relationships he tended to with care and devotion. He was a man who truly understood the importance of roots, both in the soil and in the family. Though Hillery's passing was sudden, his impact on those who knew him will last forever. He leaves behind a community of friends and family who were touched by his kindness, humor, and the genuine love he offered so freely. In keeping with Hillery’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor his life. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and encourages those who knew Hill to celebrate his life by embracing the values he held dear—love, friendship, and the simple joy of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something in your garden or have a meaningful conversation with someone you love, in memory of Hillery James Jurney. Let us all continue to nurture the seeds of kindness and friendship he so generously sowed. Rest in peace, dear Hill. Your laughter, wisdom, and unwavering love will echo in our hearts forever.
