Hilda Snyder Hege

Hilda Snyder Hege, born on October 3, 1938, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 31, 2026, at Heritage Woods in Winston Salem. She was under the gentle care of hospice, bringing comfort and peace in her final days. The daughter of James Danie Snyder and Maggie Ilene Everhart Snyder, Hilda grew up surrounded by love and companionship with her siblings Evelyn Essex, Mary Reid Black, and Wayne Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sisters, her husband Larry Hege, and her son Terry Hedrick. She is survived by her two sons, Tim Hedrick and Todd Hege, her cherished grandson Kolton Hege, and her brother Wayne Snyder. Hilda's life was marked by love and devotion. She was married to Ed Hedrick for 12 years before their paths diverged. She found love again with Larry Hege, with whom she shared 35 beautiful years until his passing in 2002. Her heart found solace once more with Avery Glenn Kiger, with whom she spent 8 years before he, too, passed in 2020. A proud graduate of Lexington High School, Hilda's early life was filled with the simple joys of walking to school and church. She dedicated over 27 years to RJ Reynolds as a machine operator, a testament to her strong work ethic. Her culinary talent shone at the Carolina Classic Fair, where her stuffed bell peppers consistently won blue ribbons. Hilda's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Baptized at the age of 16, she was a devout member of several congregations, most notably Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, where she actively participated in the handbell choir, adult choir, and various church groups. Her commitment to her faith community was unwavering, from crafting intricate "chrismon" ornaments to serving as a congregational care volunteer. Her hobbies reflected her zest for life—traveling to Canada, Nova Scotia, and the New England states, and indulging in her favorite past-time of shopping at Belk department store. Hilda had an extraordinary memory for dates and names, a testament to her deep interest in people and relationships. Hilda's spirit was defined by a contagious joy and an abiding kindness. Her laughter filled rooms, and her compassion touched countless lives. Her life verse, Romans 13:8, spoke to her belief in love as a guiding principle. A celebration of Hilda's life will be held on August 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church, located at 4265 Ebert Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, honoring Hilda's enduring commitment to her faith community. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Hospice for their compassionate care at the end of Hilda's life. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
