Hilario Nuñez Sr.

Hilario Nuñez Sr., a devoted servant of God and a cherished member of his community, passed peacefully into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior on October 4, 2026. Born on February 12, 1946, in the vibrant city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Hilario was the beloved son of Carmen Solano de Núñez and Félix Núñez Martínez. Hilario's life was a testament to unwavering faith, extraordinary compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the betterment of all those around him. As a dedicated pastor and mentor, his influence stretched far beyond the walls of the churches he served, touching the hearts and souls of many across the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and several states in the United States, including Indiana and New York. His journey in education was as diverse and profound as his ministry. Hilario was a proud alumnus of Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and furthered his theological education at Kean College, Latin American Theological Seminary, and New York Theological Seminary. His commitment to lifelong learning was evident through his Clinical Pastoral training and involvement in Cultural, Mentoring, and Counseling programs. For over fifty years, Hilario faithfully answered the call to serve, holding roles such as senior pastor, interim pastor, itinerant pastor, co-pastor, church planter, Bible student and teacher, chaplain, mentor, and counselor. His life's work was characterized by a fervent dedication to prayer, discipleship, teaching, and fellowship. Hilario's legacy is one of countless lives transformed through his guidance, kindness, and love. Hilario's personal qualities were as remarkable as his professional achievements. He was known for his deep devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ and his family and friends. His quick wit, calm yet passionate demeanor, and an insatiable hunger for life, sound theology, good books, and delicious food were all hallmarks of his character. His tireless desire to help others was a testament to his compassionate spirit and gentle soul. He leaves behind a loving family to carry forward his legacy. Hilario is survived by his beloved wife, Aurora Núñez; his children, Hilario Núñez Jr., Joel Nunez, Ana Luisa Núñez, Abby Núñez and Felix Núñez; his cherished daughters-in-love, Nelly Masa, Aury Nuñez de Masa, and Yolanda Masa; and his adored grandchildren, Josiah, Hezekiah, Canaan, Nia, Lucas, Amelia, Mateo, David, Raquel, James, and Joshua. Hilario was predeceased by his wife, Norma Luisa Núñez and daughter, Abigail Núñez, who now join him in eternal peace. In honor of Hilario's life and his dedication to helping others, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers.
