It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Herman Tyrone Hill Jr., affectionately known as "Tyrone" and musically celebrated as "Geechee Mayne," on October 6th, 2026. Tyrone passed away at home surrounded by the warmth of family, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives.
Born on September 7, 1987, in the serene town of Supply, North Carolina, Tyrone was the beloved son of Sylena Hill and Herman Hill Sr. He was predeceased by his cherished brother, Dwayne Bland. Tyrone is survived by his two treasured daughters, Journi Zuri Arlesha Hill and Imani Faith Hill, who were the light of his life.
Tyrone had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, which led him to graduate from West Brunswick High School in 2005. He pursued his passion for healthcare by attending Brunswick Community College and later transferring to Miller Motte College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Medical Sciences specializing in Medical Assisting. His dedication to helping others was further exemplified as he became a Licensed Phlebotomist and a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Throughout his career, Tyrone was driven by a desire to heal and uplift. Beyond healthcare, Tyrone was a visionary entrepreneur, founding HT Hill Music and Edutainment LLC. He was a key figure in organizing the First Gullah Geechee Calendar of North Carolina and the community's inaugural ringshout. His profound work earned him respect and recognition from many, including the esteemed Queen Chieftess of the Gullah Geechee Nation, "Queen Quet." Collaborating closely with Queen Quet, Tyrone contributed to the Gullah Geechee Coastal Protection Water Quality team and graced numerous cultural events with his unique musical talents.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Tyrone grew up as a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Shallotte, NC, where he contributed his voice to the choir. His spiritual journey led him to Holy Bethel FBH Church, where he served as both a Minister and Minister of Music, eventually attending Life Ministries of Holy Bethel. Tyrone's voice, both in song and spirit, resonated with many, as he traveled to share his music and the rich Gullah Geechee heritage with diverse congregations.
Tyrone's life was a harmonious blend of faith, music, and culture. Known for his radiant smile and distinctive voice, he was a beacon of joy and inspiration. He carried his love for singing and nature in his heart, always ready to share his knowledge and passion for the Gullah Geechee legacy.
