In Loving Memory

Herbert Levie Thomas Grooms
October 23, 1958 — June 18, 2026
In loving memory, we honor the life of Herbert Levie Thomas Grooms, who passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on October 23, 1958, in Warrenton, Virginia, Herbert was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Maud Grooms.
Herbert was a man whose life was defined by love, resilience, and a deep commitment to family and community. He shared 27 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Carolyn Grooms, whom he married on November 6, 1999. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with warmth and compassion, raising three wonderful children: daughters Octavia Renzy and Ruth Warner (and her husband Paul Warner Sr.), and a son, Rutherford Renzy III.
A dedicated father and grandfather, Herbert took immense pride in his family, delighting in the presence of his six grandchildren—Thomas Renzy, Paul Warner II, Elijah Renzy, Malachai Renzy, Josiah Williams, and his cherished granddaughter, Nateah Renzy. His legacy continues through his two great-grandchildren, Olivander Renzy and Nova, who brought him immense joy and laughter.
Herbert's professional life was marked by his 30-year career as a laborer class II for the county of Fairfax, Virginia. During his tenure, he earned several safety awards, a testament to his diligence and commitment to his work. More than his accolades, Herbert valued the friendships he forged with his colleagues, always ready with a smile and a kind word.
Outside of work, Herbert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, passions that brought peace and fulfillment. Each spring, his garden would come to life, beginning with the planting of potatoes in March. He took great pride in nurturing his plants and took even greater joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family.
Herbert will be remembered for his infectious smile and sense of humor, which had the power to uplift those around him. His ability to bring a smile to someone's face was one of his many gifts, and his laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Herbert, we remember a life well-lived and a man well-loved. Though he is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Maud Grooms, his spirit lives on through his surviving family members, who will continue to honor his memory with love and gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Herbert's memory to a charity of your choice. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy of love and kindness continue to inspire us all.
