Herbert Lee Yates

August 4, 1947 — August 15, 2026

Herbert Lee Yates, affectionately known as Herbie, passed away on August 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and faith. Born in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana on August 4, 1947, Herbie was the cherished son of Naomi Lucille and Andrew Yates, both of whom predeceased him. Herbie's life was a testament to the power of love and resilience. He found joy in the everyday moments, a trait that was evident to his surviving wife, Patricia Daniels Yates, whom he married on September 22, 2017, in Riverside, California. Together, they shared nine wonderful years, merging their families and creating a home filled with warmth and laughter. Herbie's family was his pride and joy. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Gwendolyn Yates and Donnie Yates, as well as his siblings, Joan Marie Powell, Naomi Yates, and Larry Yates. His extended family included stepchildren Jason Cottrell, Tiffney Cottrell, Tauisha Cottrell Davis, Tamura Cain, Diamond Topps, and Kia Topps, all of whom he embraced as his own. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren, Devante Cottrell, Jailyn Cottrell, Eliza Cottrell, Shawn Cottrell, Samori Brown, and Lake Floyd Wafer, and two great-grandchildren, Alaiyah Cottrell and Jailyn Cottrell Jr. Herbie's journey in education took him to Biola University in La Mirada, California, where he developed a passion for helping others. This passion translated into a successful career as a top-performing Car Sales Consultant for Ford Motor Company, where he spent 23 years. Herbie's dedication to service extended beyond his professional life; he was a devoted Pastor who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age, sharing his faith with those around him. In addition to his spiritual and professional pursuits, Herbie was recognized for his compassionate heart, completing training through the UCLA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program for Caring for People with Dementia. This accomplishment speaks volumes about his character, as he was known for his deep empathy and care for others. Herbie found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as golfing and spending quality time with friends and family. He delighted in listening to music and was often found laughing and joking with his siblings, a testament to his vibrant spirit and love for life. Herbie's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Herbie's generous nature and commitment to giving back. As we remember Herbert Lee Yates, we honor a man who lived his life with love, faith, and joy, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his beloved family and friends.
