Herbert Lawrence Jr., a beacon of warmth and kindness, left this world on June 13, 2026, at the age of 35. Born on September 1, 1990, in Tarboro, North Carolina, Herbert's journey began at Edgecombe Community College, where he entered the world with a heart ready to embrace life's many adventures. He was the cherished son of Vicky Dawkins and Herbert Earl Lawrence Sr., and he spent his formative years growing up surrounded by love and laughter in Rocky Mount, NC.
Herbert's life was a testament to the power of love and resilience. He was predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Nancy Dawkins; his dear sister, Lamika Rnee Dawkins; grandparents, Viola Kelley and George; and his brother-in-law, Delvon Edmondson. Despite these profound losses, Herbert carried their memories within him, honoring them through his actions and the life he led.
Herbert leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his devoted parents, Vicky and Herbert E. Lawrence Sr., who nurtured him with unwavering support. His beloved wife, Tamiqua Edmondson Lawrence, stood by his side through life's trials and triumphs, together building a family centered around love and unity. Herbert's pride and joy were his children, Aidyn and King Lawrence, and his niece, Zaniyha Edmondson, whom he cared for as his own. His nurturing spirit and boundless affection will forever be remembered by his family.
Herbert's extended family, including his mother-in-law, Inga Edmondson Hines, and her husband Timothy; grandmother-in-law, Joyce Holland; and grandfather-in-law, Arthur Edmondson, all of Rocky Mount, NC, shared in the joy of his life. His sisters-in-law, Shakema, Joycelyn, and Sierra Edmondson, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends, will cherish the memories they created with him.
A proud graduate of Nash Central High School, Herbert furthered his education at Edgecombe Community College, where he earned his GED. His dedication to personal growth and achievement did not stop there. Herbert pursued and accomplished his CDL's at Nash Community College, opening doors to new opportunities.
Professionally, Herbert was a pillar of his community as the manager of DG Market in Whitakers, NC. His leadership and commitment to excellence were evident to all who worked alongside him. His colleagues and customers alike were drawn to his genuine nature and infectious smile.
Herbert was known for his fun-loving spirit and kindness. He had an innate ability to bring joy to any room, often through his love of music and dancing. Family gatherings were his sanctuary, and his presence made every moment more vibrant and memorable.
Herbert Lawrence Jr.'s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of family. Though his time with us was short, his impact was profound. As we celebrate his life, we remember his laughter, his unwavering support, and his enduring love for those he held dear.
Services to honor Herbert's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Herbert's name to a charity of one's choice, to continue his spirit of giving and kindness.
