Seus, a beloved father, grandfather, and distinguished veteran, peacefully passed away on March 26, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the loving embrace of his family at his home. Born on June 23, 1932, in Queens, New York, Herbert was the cherished son of Pius and Gisela Seus. Herbert's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty" McDonough, with whom he shared a remarkable 60 years of marriage. They married on August 31, 1957, in Queens, New York, and together they built a beautiful life, raising seven wonderful daughters. A proud veteran, Herbert served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. During his service, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Korea and Japan. His bravery and commitment were recognized with several commendations, including the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation with two bronze clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Korean Service Medal. Herbert was also a dedicated family man, whose greatest joy was found in the company of his daughters, Elizabeth Seus, Denise Butera, Noreen Lacourciere, Mary Ellen Alptekin, Caroline Seus, Regina Seus, and Valerie Byrne. His legacy extends to his 15 grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply. Herbert is remembered not only for his service and devotion to family but also for his kindness, wisdom, and an ever-present sense of humor. Those who knew him speak of his generous spirit, his love for storytelling, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. In addition to his wife and parents, Herbert was predeceased by his brother, Edward, and sister, Eleanor, who he always spoke of with fondness and love. The family will honor Herbert's life with a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that donations be made in his name to Honor Flight Long Island and Tunnel to Towers, organizations that reflect Herbert's values and dedication to service. Herbert J. Seus's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
