OBITUARY
Herbert Eugene Moore age 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a special uncle, born into time April 27, 1942, and peacefully departed into eternity September 13, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee, Herbert was the cherished son of Houston and Reola Moore. His life was a testament to the strength of family bonds, the value of hard work, and the profound impact of kindness.
Herbert's early years in Memphis were marked by the nurturing environment created by his parents, Houston and Reola. He attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he earned his diploma, setting the stage for a life dedicated to providing for his family and serving his community. Throughout his career, Herbert worked diligently in various jobs around Memphis, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his work and a steadfast devotion to his loved ones.
In his personal life, Herbert was a pillar of love and support. He shared over 40 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lela Moore, their children Ricky (Eva K), Venita, Valarie (Mike), Vanessa, Stephanie, Demetruis (Taylar), Terry (Samantha), and Antonio. Herbert's legacy extends to his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great-nephews and a wide circle of friends, all of whom cherished his gentle spirit and infectious smile.
Herbert was predeceased by his parents, Houston and Reola, his eldest daughter Vickie, and his sisters Frances Louise Moore ( lil sister) and Thelma Christine Hughes (BeBe). He is survived by his devoted wife Lela, his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and friends, including a special friend, Raymond Wells.
A man of deep faith, Herbert was a dedicated member of Christ United Baptist Church, where he participated actively for many years. His faith was not only a personal comfort but also a source of inspiration to those around him.
Herbert had a passion for fishing, a hobby he lovingly inherited from his mother, and he spent countless joyful hours at the water's edge. He was also known for his love of playing cards, particularly spades, with family and friends, a pastime that brought laughter and camaraderie to those fortunate enough to join him.
Herbert's gracious smile was his hallmark, embodying the warmth and kindness that defined his character. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel special and valued, spreading joy and positivity wherever he went.
A celebration of Herbert's life will be held on Saturday September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m to 12 noon. at Lauderdale Baptist Church, located at 836 South Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38126.
