With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Herbert E. Zirk on July 8, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Renown, Saskatchewan, Herb was the son of Henry and Lydia (Schroeder) Zirk. He was the second youngest of eleven children, Herb was predeceased by his parents and all ten of his siblings.
In 1957, Herb married the love of his life, Darlene (Halvorson), and together they recently celebrated an extraordinary 69 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with four children: Terry and Chris Paulson, Warren and Kathy (Smith), Carol and James Hammen, and Darren and Carey (Ehr). Herb's family grew further, adding the joy of grandchildren: Graeme, Cameron, and Anna Zirk; Travis, Troy, Tyler, and Taryn Wright; Josie, Karli, and Maksim Zirk. His great-grandchildren Slater, Tilly Wright, and Ronan Zirk brought him immense pride and happiness.
Herb was a man of many talents and a dedicated professional. His career began at Acklands, where he worked his way up from the ground floor to become the South Saskatchewan General Manager. He witnessed the company's evolution from Bowman Brothers to Acklands including Bumper to Bumper, and ultimately Acklands Grainger. His work ethic and leadership left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the industry.
Known for his friendly and witty demeanor, Herb was truly a people person. He had an exceptional ability to make those around him feel special, and he made it a personal mission to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met. His kindness, humor, and genuine interest in others ensured that he was remembered fondly by all.
Herb's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on July 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Regina Funeral Home, located at 4001 E Victoria Ave, Regina, SK S4V 3A3. Friends and family are invited to gather and share in the memories of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to William Booth/Grace Hospice in Regina, Saskatchewan, in memory of Herb. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers, especially those at Grace Hospice, for their compassion and guidance during this difficult time.
Herb will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a cherished friend. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
