Henry Wayne Rushing
June 17, 1950 — May 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Wayne Rushing, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on May 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Henry was surrounded by the love of his family at his home in Texas, as he crossed the threshold into eternal life. He was 75 years old.
Born on June 17, 1950, in the small town of Hico, Texas, Henry was the cherished son of the late Louise Rushing. From a young age, Henry embodied the spirit of perseverance and integrity, traits that would guide him throughout his life. He attended Hico High School, graduating in 1968, where he began to cultivate the foundational skills and values that would lead to his many successes.
Henry was a man of enterprise and vision, founding and running a flourishing telephone burying business, Underground Services. His dedication to excellence was evident in all his endeavors, and in 1991, alongside his devoted wife, Sharon, they transitioned to a life closer to nature by starting the Rushing River Ranch on the banks of the Neches River. Henry's work ethic and skillset were as vast as his generosity, making him a respected figure in both business and his community. Following his entrepreneurial pursuits, he contributed his talents to Anderson County until his well-earned retirement.
In marriage, Henry found his perfect partner and love of his life, Sharon, whom he wed on December 28, 1984. Together, they built a family and shared 42 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was blessed with the joy of children and grandchildren, who were the pride of Henry's life. He is survived by his beloved wife Sharon Rushing; his children and their spouses: Allen and Debbie Blackwell, Deidra and Lance McKee, Ron and Katie Blackwell, and Samuel Rushing; his sister Kay Wooten and her husband Gary; his cherished grandchildren: Rikki and Will Solomon, Brady and Lesly Welch, Mark Pippin, Andrea and Frankie Almendarez, Morgan Blackwell, Tony Blackwell, Brandon and Ashley Blackwell, Morgan and Briar Whitkanack, and Logan McKee; and his precious great-grandchildren: Gavin and Madison Almendarez, Cole and Collyn Solomon, Allison and Kymber Welch, and Beau Blackwell. Henry’s lineage is a testament to his life’s work and love.
Henry had an indomitable passion for hunting, never missing an opening day, and he found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of tending to his garden, generously sharing its bounty with family and neighbors. A true jack of all trades, he could fix any piece of equipment on the ranch, a testament to his practical skills and resourcefulness. His neighbors knew him as a dependable friend, always ready to lend a hand.
Henry's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to doing things right, a commitment that extended to his love for his family and community. His legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and a profound sense of duty, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Henry’s life and legacy, celebrating the man whose spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Henry's memory to perform an act of kindness in their community, reflecting the generosity and compassion that was the hallmark of his life.
In remembering Henry Wayne Rushing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. May he rest in peace, his spirit ever free, resting in the gentle embrace of the Neches River he so cherished.
