It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Henry Thomas Sr. Born on August 12, 1944, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Henry departed this world peacefully at home on April 30, 2026. He was 81 years old.
Henry was the cherished son of the late Mary Battle and John Thomas, and their legacy of kindness and community service was one that he carried on with grace throughout his life. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Henry dedicated four decades of his career to the school system, nurturing countless young minds with his gentle guidance and unwavering support.
A man of simple joys, Henry found great pleasure in the tranquil act of fishing and the solace of a good book. His love for these pastimes was only matched by his passion for serving others. Known for his warm smile and generous spirit, Henry was a cornerstone of his community, always willing to lend a helping hand and ensure that no one went without a meal. His dedication to feeding the community and working with children left an indelible mark on many lives, fostering a legacy of compassion and service.
Henry's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the importance of community. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. He is survived by his loving daughter, Mozetta Thomas, who carries forth his legacy with the same strength and compassion that defined her father's life. Henry's memory will also be cherished by his granddaughter, Sherita Thomas, granddaughters, Valencia Thomas, and grandson, Xavious Thomas, as well as his 12 great-grandchildren who will forever hold his love close.
In keeping with Henry’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to H.D. Funeral Home for their compassionate care, and to all those who have sent their condolences during this difficult time. Your support and kindness are deeply appreciated.
Though Henry Thomas Sr. has departed from this world, his legacy of love, kindness, and community service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
