It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Henry Michael Layman, who peacefully went home to be with his maker on April 29, 2026, after a courageous bout with illness. Born on February 11, 1950 in New Port News, Virginia, Henry was a beacon of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Henry was the cherished son of the late John Jacob Layman and Mary Edith Layman. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Paul Layman, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
Henry's journey was beautifully intertwined with that of his beloved wife, Nancy Williams Layman, who stood by his side with unwavering devotion. Together, they built a legacy of love and resilience that extended to their cherished children: Coke Edmond, Dallas Gordon, Henry Michael Layman Jr., and John Jacob Layman, alongside his wife, Angela Layman. Henry's love and guidance were the bedrock of his family, an enduring presence that embraced them all.
His legacy continues to thrive through his seven treasured grandchildren: Hezekia, Laila, Thessaly, Gia, Amari, and Nikolas, who brought endless joy to his days. Though he leaves behind no great-grandchildren, his spirit will undoubtedly live on in future generations.
Henry is also survived by his devoted sisters, Norma Layman and Judith Nice, who enriched his life with their love and shared memories.
Henry's life was one of service, kindness, and dedication. His community, friends, and family will remember him as a man of integrity and compassion. He was a gentle soul with a heart as expansive as the sky, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement.
In celebration of Henry's extraordinary life, a service will be held on May 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Lewis Memorial CME Church, located at 1363 Turlock Ln, San Jose, CA 95132. Friends and family are invited to gather as we honor and remember a life that touched us all so deeply.
Henry Michael Layman leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lessons that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. As we bid him farewell, we do so with gratitude for the time spent and the memories shared. May his soul rest in peace and his spirit soar eternally.
