Obituary of Henry Edgar Tottington It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that we announce the passing of Henry Edgar Tottington, a cherished brother, uncle, and soldier, whose life was a testament to courage and dedication. Henry was born on May 18, 1898, in the historical heart of White Chapel, London, UK, to Talbot and Alice Tottington. His life, though tragically cut short, was filled with remarkable achievements and a steadfast commitment to his family and country. Henry was a proud graduate of the University of Oxford, where he cultivated a love for knowledge and learning that would guide him throughout his life. His academic pursuits were complemented by his enthusiastic participation in various activities, including playing with friends—a pastime that reflected his warm and amiable nature. In 1909, Henry joined the Royal Flying Corps, embarking on a career that would define him as a man of valor and integrity. He served with distinction as a soldier from 1910 to 1921, earning the admiration and respect of his peers. Henry's bravery was further exemplified during his service in the battle of Sardinia, where he was tragically killed when his plane fell. His sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the selflessness and courage that characterized his life. Henry's professional journey included working as a servant, a role in which he displayed a remarkable work ethic and an unwavering dedication to serving others. Throughout his life, he was guided by the values of loyalty and humility, qualities that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving family: his brother, Arthur Edgar Tottington, age 24, sister-in-law, Emily Edgar Tottington, age 23, his nephew, George Edgar Tottington, and his esteemed comrades, including Soldier Fredrick Thomas Phillips and his dear Aunt Constance Tottington. Henry's legacy lives on through his 7 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who carry forward his spirit and values. As we gather to honor Henry's life, a service will be held on May 15, 2026, at 12:43 PM at St Andrews Church of England, located at 12 Wallace Highway. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Royal Flying Corps, an organization that held a special place in Henry's heart. A special message from the family reminds us of Henry's enduring legacy: "He will be God's servant." As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, bravery, and service. Henry Edgar Tottington will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
