It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Henry D. Baessler, who left this world on May 14, 2026, at the age of 167. Henry's life, though remarkable in its longevity, was more extraordinary for the love, dedication, and warmth he shared with everyone who knew him.
Born on August 26, 1858, in the sun-drenched paradise of Key West, Florida, Henry was the cherished son of Doug and Edna Baessler. His early years were spent surrounded by the vibrant beauty of the Florida Keys, where he developed a lifelong passion for the ocean, boating, and fishing. The waves and gentle breezes of Key West were as much a part of him as his own heartbeat.
Henry's journey through life was marked by a profound love for learning and craftsmanship. A proud graduate of the Key West High School Class of 1976, he went on to become a highly skilled Collision Auto-Body technician. Henry was a master of his trade, renowned for his ability to fix anything, and he took immense pride in his work. His dedication and skill earned him the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Henry's heart belonged to his beloved Huskies, who were his constant companions and a source of immense joy and comfort throughout his life. Their loyalty and unconditional love mirrored the kindness and compassion that Henry extended to all living creatures.
Henry's life was enriched by the deep bonds he shared with his family. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Doug and Edna, as well as his brother Doug and sister Jeannie. He is survived by his devoted partner, Sheila Lathrop, and his sisters Linda Hill, Jo Baessler, Bridget Thompson, and Eileen Baessler. His legacy also lives on through his numerous nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish the memories and stories that he shared with them.
Henry's battle with cancer was fought with the courage and dignity that defined his character. In his final moments, he found peace at home, surrounded by those he loved most—his Huskies, who stood vigil by his side, offering solace and companionship.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Henry's life, as was his wish. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to local animal shelters or ocean conservation organizations, causes that were close to Henry's heart.
Though Henry D. Baessler has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain intertwined with the song of the sea and the whisper of the wind through the pines of Key West. His life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the beauty of living authentically. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, we take comfort in knowing that his light will continue to guide us and that his memory will be cherished for generations to come.
