Henry Moses, Jr. of Decatur, Ga., formally of Donora, Pa., a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on March 29, 1939, in Grady Hospital of Atlanta, GA. He peacefully departed this life on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and family.
Henry was the cherished son of the late Essie Mae Googer and William Collins (LC) Googer. He was predeceased by his devoted best friend and grandson, Todd Henry Moses. Despite these losses, Henry's spirit remained unshakeable, sustained by the enduring love of his surviving family: his children, Timothy Moses, Colleen Moses, Alishia Morrisette, and Anita Tolliver. He was also a proud grandfather to Robert, Moses, Leon Moses, Jeremy Moses, Brittani Tolliver, Calvin Moses, Najee Moses, Steffani Tolliver, Alyssa Moses, Jonathon Tolliver, and Frank Moses. His legacy continued through his great-grandchildren—Darius, TaShaya, Desmir, Kiera, Josiah, Jamare, Kali Dior, Lyric, Heiress, Kamden, Kamari, SaMiyah (NuNu), Marleigh, Kadence, Kyir, Messiah, Hezeki, Malachi, Marleigh—and great-great-grandson, Kashton.
Henry was taking care of in his final years by his fiancée, Darlene Warren, and was previously married to Roberta Smith Moses, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
A proud alumnus of Donora High School, class of 1959, Henry furthered his education at California State College of Pennsylvania. His dedication to service was exemplified through his over 20 years of honorable service in the US Army. After his military career, he devoted his professional life to nurturing young minds within the Dekalb County Georgia Schools until his retirement.
Henry's zest for life was infectious. A passionate dancer and music enthusiast, he often found solace in his vast album collection, which comprised over 500 records. His love for music was rivaled only by his love for football and classic films, which he enjoyed from the comfort of his favorite recliner.
A self taught self proclaimed baker, Henry was renowned for his incomparable Sweet Potato Pies, which became a beloved holiday staple. He found the greatest joy in gathering his family at his home, affectionately known as his "shack," where laughter and love filled every corner.
A celebration of Henry's life will be held on October 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Meadows Mortuary, located at 419 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316. Ecclesiastes 3:1–8
To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up
that which is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones,
and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace,
and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace.
