Henry Blackwell

August 3, 1935 — September 16, 2026

In Loving Memory of Henry Blackwell Henry Blackwell, a cherished soul whose warmth and humor touched the hearts of many, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 16, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on August 3, 1935, in White Plains, NY, Henry was the beloved son of the late Mable Blackwell and Claude Baines. He was preceded in death by his parents, his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary, his dear daughters Barbara, Wanda, and Cassandra, and his four sisters, Edna, Viola, Eleanor, and Tessie. Henry and Mary’s love story began in 1960 at Keys in Port Chester. They were a remarkable pair, navigating life's joys and challenges together with resilience and love. Their union was blessed with eight wonderful children, and they cherished their time together, especially during their fishing adventures with family and friends. Henry's legacy of love and laughter continues through his surviving children—Mayola, James, Lisa, Louis, Mable, and Diane—and his extensive family, including 22 grandchildren and a multitude of great, great-great, and great-great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins cherished friends. A proud alumnus of the White Plains education system, Henry dedicated 38 years of his life to serving the community as an auto mechanic for the city of White Plains, retiring in 1990. His work was a testament to his dedication and skill, and he was known to all as a man who could fix anything with his hands and solve any problem with his heart. Outside of his professional life, Henry was a man of simple joys. He found peace and happiness in fishing and loved nothing more than cooking out on the grill, gathering loved ones for food and laughter. His quick wit and ready jokes could lighten any room, and his kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Henry had a rare gift for making people feel welcome and heard, and his spirit of warmth and inclusion will be missed by all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Henry, we hold dear the countless memories and the indelible mark he left on our lives. We say, "Thank you, Henry (Dad, PC, Pops, Granddad), for being you. Love you."

He Is Gone But NotForgot

You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, Or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he's gone, Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he'd want: Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
