In Loving Memory

Henrietta Pressley
April 5, 1940 — April 17, 2026
Henrietta Pressley, a beacon of love and grace, peacefully transitioned from this life at the age of 86 on April 10, 2026, at her cherished home in Denton, Texas. Born on April 5, 1940, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, LA, Henrietta's journey was one marked by devotion to family, faith, and community.
The beloved daughter of John and Lisa Pressley, Henrietta was nurtured in a household that instilled values of compassion and resilience. Her parents, along with her sisters, Barbara Ann McKenzie and Marcia Fran Hill, preceded her in death, but their spirits undoubtedly welcomed her home with open arms.
Henrietta's life was a tapestry woven with love and dedication. She shared 28 harmonious years of marriage with her late husband, John Pressley, a union that was a testament to enduring partnership and faith. Together, they built a nurturing home filled with laughter and warmth for their cherished children: David Lawrence Washington, Christopher Gerard Washington (partner Lashawn Green), Brian Keith Washington, and Tracy Hawkins. Her legacy of love extends to her grandchildren, Monique Hawkins and Charmaine Sturdivant (partner James Sturdivant), and further flourishes with her eight great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored with all her heart.
Henrietta's community roots ran deep in Denton, where she received her formative education through Denton Public Schools, attending Fred Moore High School. Her fondness for her alma mater was evident in her enthusiastic participation in school reunions, where she joyfully reconnected with old friends and classmates.
Her professional life was one of service and care. Henrietta's culinary talents were put to good use at the Denton State School and later with the Denton Independent School District. Here, she not only nourished the bodies but also the spirits of countless students, including those who shared classrooms with her own children. Her retirement from the district was marked by appreciation for her years of dedicated service.
Henrietta is survived by a loving family who will carry forward her values and spirit. Her sister, Rondi Roberson, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends remain to celebrate her life and remember her unwavering kindness.
A celebration of Henrietta's life will be held on April 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at 509 Lakey St., Denton, Texas 76205. It is here that family and friends will gather to honor a life lived with grace and gratitude.
In remembering Henrietta Pressley, we find solace in the legacy she has left behind—a legacy of love, family, and faith that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the beauty of a heart full of love. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
