January 4, 1930 — May 1, 2026

Henrietta Hawkins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on January 4, 1930, in the picturesque town of Alexandria, Virginia, Henrietta was the devoted daughter of the late Henry and Martha Liggins, whose nurturing spirits shaped the remarkable woman she became. Henrietta's journey through life was adorned with love, laughter, and enduring dedication. As a young woman, she graduated from Dunbar High School, where she forged friendships and cultivated a thirst for knowledge that would guide her throughout her days. With a strong work ethic and a commitment to service, Henrietta dedicated 30 years of her life to Hecht's Co., where she was not just an employee but an inspiration to her colleagues, embodying reliability and kindness. Henrietta's heart was vast and her love unconditional. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Martha Liggins, and her beloved son, William Hawkins, whose memory she cherished every day. Her spirit lives on in her surviving family: her devoted daughter, Deborah Hughes, and her grandchildren, Gai Hughes, Adit Hughes, Kelly Hawkins, William Hawkins III, and Nicole Hawkins, who were the lights of her life. In her later years, Henrietta found immense joy in the laughter of her twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and delighted in watching grow. She found solace and serenity in the simple pleasures of life. Henrietta loved to take long walks, often wandering to Haines Point, where she marveled at nature's beauty. These walks were a testament to her appreciation for the world around her, and she found peace and reflection in every step. Her family fondly recalls her storytelling, where she recounted tales of her life with a twinkle in her eye and a warmth that enveloped all who listened. Henrietta’s greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who filled her days with happiness and pride. Her home was a sanctuary of love, where laughter echoed and memories were woven into the fabric of her legacy. Henrietta Hawkins will be remembered for her unwavering love, her gentle strength, and her boundless compassion. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact of a loving heart. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit endures in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Henrietta's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to a charity of choice, reflecting her generous heart and lifelong commitment to helping others. Henrietta Hawkins, a beacon of love and grace, will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
