Helmut Pfeil

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Helmut Pfeil, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Helmut peacefully departed this world on May 22, 2026, at the age of 82, in the comforting embrace of his assisted living community, after a courageous battle with a bone infection. Helmut was born on May 14, 1943, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, to Josef and Hildegard Pfeil. Emigrating to the United States in 1954, Helmut embraced his new homeland with open arms, serving with honor in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. His commitment to his adopted country was further solidified when he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. His dedication to service was matched by his industrious nature, leading to a fulfilling career as an esteemed elevator mechanic, where he was also a proud member of the National Elevator Union. Helmut found profound joy in his marriage to Ruth, a union that began on November 2, 1957, and lasted until Ruth's passing. Together, they lovingly raised two children, Stephen and Karen, in a home filled with laughter, love, and the spirited cheers of soccer—Helmut's favorite pastime. His passion for the sport was evident not only in his fervent support as a fan but also in his active participation with the German American soccer club, Eintract, where he forged lifelong friendships. A man of immense warmth and unwavering patriotism, Helmut's legacy is carried forward by his children, Stephen Pfeil and his wife Maureen, and Karen Pfeil-Schaub and her wife Melissa. His love and wisdom have also been imprinted on his cherished grandson, Zachary Pfeil-Schaub. Helmut is also survived by his brother, Dieter Pfeil, whose presence was a constant source of support and camaraderie throughout his life. Helmut's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a comforting balm to our hearts. A service to celebrate Helmut's life will be held on May 23, 2026. As we come together to honor him, let us remember a man whose life was defined by dedication, love, and unyielding enthusiasm for the simple joys of life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to organizations that promote community sports, in honor of Helmut's lifelong passion for soccer and his commitment to fostering community spirit. Helmut Pfeil's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Ruth, and forever remembered as a proud grandfather, a devoted family man, and a true patriot.
