Helen was the beloved daughter of Alberto D. Otanes, Sr. and Milagros Delos Reyes Otanes. From a young age, her athletic prowess shone brightly, earning her a full scholarship at the University of Pangasinan. As a multi-sport athlete, she excelled in discus throwing, javelin, shot put, and track competitions, proudly representing her university at the national level. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and later pursued studies in criminology, showcasing her desire for continuous growth and learning. Her career path was as dynamic as her personality. Helen began her professional journey as a high school teacher, imparting knowledge and inspiring young minds. Her passion for justice led her to a trailblazing career in law enforcement, where she became one of the first policewomen in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Her journey took her to the Northern Police District in Quezon City, marking a significant milestone in her life. Helen's adventurous spirit brought her to the United States, where she embraced new opportunities with vigor. Her commitment to a strong work ethic saw her through various roles, from security positions to customer service at the San Francisco Design Center. She contributed her skills to the U.S. Postal Service, worked in maintenance engineering at the Hyatt Hotel, and finally became a valued member of the security department at Lucky Chances Casino. Beyond her professional achievements, Helen was an avid and accomplished chess player, participating in city government tournaments and engaging in friendly competitions with loved ones. Her intellectual acumen and strategic mind were evident both on and off the chessboard. Helen's life was enriched by her 47-year partnership with her beloved Remedios Dionisio. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Her siblings Alegria O. Carunungan, Elizabeth O. Solis, and Joselito R. Otanes, along with her nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, will forever cherish the memories they created with her. Known for her unwavering determination and strong convictions, Helen was a goal-oriented individual whose ambitions always came to fruition.
