Helen Marie Charity

August 20, 1945 — October 20, 2026

Helen Marie Charity, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 20, 1945, in Engelhard, North Carolina, Helen was the cherished daughter of John Edward and Ethel Marie Bryant. She grew up with a strong foundation of family values and a deep love for her community. Helen's life was a testament to love, kindness, and faith. As a dedicated member of the Heaven Creek Baptist Church, she served as an usher, choir member, and an all-around worker, always eager to lend a hand wherever needed. Her devotion to her faith was beautifully reflected in her everyday actions, as she consistently put others before herself, embodying the true spirit of compassion. Helen was predeceased by her dear parents, her brother Edward Bryant Jr., sister Alice Mae Adams, brother Shirl Bryant, sister Julia Maxine Bryant, and brother Samuel Bryant. She is survived by her loving sister Ernestine Blount, her devoted children: son Ricky Lee Gibbs (Marilyn Bettis), daughter Trovene Lovette Fitchett (Vernell), son Craig Charity (fiancée Tonya), and son Kelsey Charity (fiancée Lilianna). She also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her dearly. The family extends special gratitude to her devoted niece Anita Bryant, affectionately known as "Neat," and her dear friend Delphine McMurrin, along with her dedicated care team. Helen pursued education with determination, earning her GED through the College of Albemarle. Throughout her career, she found joy and fulfillment in her roles as a home health aide and janitor at the college, where her warm smile and generous spirit touched many lives. Helen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with family and friends, cooking delicious meals, and sharing laughter. Her love for God and her unwavering faith were the guiding lights of her life, shining through in every interaction she had. The family of Helen Marie Charity wishes to express heartfelt thanks to everyone who reached out with calls, texts, visits, cards, and prayers during this difficult time. Your support means the world to us. Although Helen's physical presence has left us, her love remains alive in every beat of our hearts. We find comfort in the night sky, believing she is the brightest star, watching over us and keeping us safe. Heaven is indeed more beautiful with her there, and while death may leave a heartache no one can heal, her love leaves a memory no one can steal. Rest peacefully, Mom, until we meet again.
