Helen Louise Shaw
June 25, 1940 — May 4, 2026
With hearts both heavy and grateful, we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Louise Shaw on May 4, 2026, at her cherished home. Born on June 25, 1940, in the heart of Missouri, Helen graced the world with her presence for 85 years, embodying a life filled with love, strength, and an unyielding dedication to her family.
Helen was the beloved daughter of Rube and Zelma Dowell, whose legacy she carried forward with grace and dignity. Growing up in a close-knit family, Helen was the sister to two brothers, Johnny and David Dowell, and a sister, Patricia (Patsy) Davis Stuart, all of whom predeceased her but left an indelible mark on her heart.
In 1958, Helen married the love of her life, Wilford Shaw, with whom she shared decades of companionship, love, and family. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering support, values they passed on to their children and grandchildren.
Helen was a devoted mother to her surviving children: David Wayne Shaw of Monroe City, Gary Shaw and wife Dena of St. Catherine, MO, and Laurie Mefford and husband Leslie of Shelbina, MO. She was also blessed with the loving presence of her daughter-in-law from Callao, MO, who stood by her side with care and devotion.
She was predeceased by her son, Arlie (AW) Shaw, and her cherished grandchildren, Joseph Mefford, Freddy Shaw, and April Wolfe, as well as a great-grandson, who each held a special place in her heart.
Her family legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and who brought immense joy to her life.
Helen’s life was a testament to resilience and love, as she navigated the joys and sorrows of life with unmatched grace and dignity. She was a beacon of strength and a nurturing soul, always ready with a warm embrace or a gentle word of encouragement. Her home was a sanctuary for family gatherings, where stories were shared, and laughter echoed through the walls.
In her quiet moments, Helen found solace in her garden, tending to her flowers with the same care and attention she gave to her family and friends. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever bloom in the hearts of those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate Helen Louise Shaw’s life, a life well-lived and filled with love. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends.
A private family service will be held to honor Helen’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting Helen’s lifelong commitment to giving and supporting others.
Helen’s journey on this earth has ended, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. She is now reunited with her beloved Wilford and all those who have gone before her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
