Helen Hicks April 30, 1931 – October 16, 2026 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Helen Hicks, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on October 16, 2026. Helen was born on April 30, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Gertrude Reed, who nurtured Helen's compassionate spirit and unwavering faith. Helen's early years were filled with warmth and love, living in a home where she was encouraged to pursue her passions. At the age of 12, Helen joined Morris Tabernacle Church, where she began a lifelong journey of faith and service. Her devotion to her church and community defined the fabric of her life and was an enduring source of strength and inspiration. In 1949, Helen embarked on a career in beauty, attending Bernice School and Cosmetology in Dayton, Ohio. Helen had a passion for helping others which eventually led her to a fulfilling career at Lydia E. Hall Hospital in Freeport, New York, where her kindness and compassion touched countless lives. In 1953, Helen married the love of her life, Charles Hicks. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and faith. They were blessed with four children, who were the light of Helen's life. Although predeceased by her sons and mother, Gertrude Reed, Charles Hicks Jr. and Michael Hicks, and her husband, Charles Hicks Sr., Helen remained a pillar of strength for her surviving children, Alvin Hicks and Irene Douglas, whom she leaves behind along with 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Her love for them was unyielding, and her legacy continues through them. Helen's life was a testament to her strong faith. After relocating, she became a cherished member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. Even though she didn't commit to membership, Helen never lost her faith or her love for the Lord in Christ, who was there whenever she called on him or whenever she needed strength. Helen's memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will forever be remembered. As we say goodbye to Helen, let us celebrate her extraordinary life and the indelible mark she left on this world. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.

The 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
