It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Helen Elizabeth Mirra, a beloved matriarch, devoted wife, and treasured friend. Helen peacefully departed this world on June 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 7, 1937, in LaGrange, Georgia, Helen lived a life rich with love, laughter, and kindness. Helen was the cherished daughter of the late Lloyd and Melva Bowles and the sister of Jeannine Chambers. She was predeceased by her beloved brother James Bowles and her dear son, Joel Mirra. Her unwavering love and strength will forever be remembered by her surviving family: her devoted husband of 68 years, Eugene Mirra; her loving daughter, Tammy Feldman, and her husband, Michael; and her caring son, Jeff Mirra, and his wife Dawn. Helen was also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to three, each of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. On August 25, 1957, Helen married the love of her life, Eugene Mirra, in LaGrange, Georgia. Together, they crafted a beautiful tapestry of shared experiences, raising three children and weaving together a life defined by enduring love and fond memories. Her family was her greatest joy, and she delighted in every gathering, every shared meal, and every story told around the family table. Helen dedicated over 20 years of service to NJ Bell as a telephone operator, where her warm voice and kind demeanor touched the lives of countless individuals. Her career was marked by her dedication, her reliability, and her ever-present smile. A woman of varied interests, Helen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a passionate card player, loved the challenge of mahjong, and looked forward to trips to Atlantic City with Eugene and their friends. Her vibrant spirit thrived in the bowling alleys, where she participated in local leagues for many years. Yet, alongside her family, Helen's heart was especially touched by her canine companions; her many dogs over the years were a source of immense joy and comfort. In honoring Helen's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Helen's memory to the Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter (https://www.fosocas.org/donations/), an organization close to her heart, reflecting her deep love for animals. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff, hospice care, and volunteers of Southern Ocean Medical Center Hospital. Their exceptional compassion and care provided immeasurable comfort to Helen and her family during her final days. Helen Elizabeth Mirra's legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Her laughter, warmth, and kindness will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her, and her spirit will continue to guide those she loved. As we say goodbye, we hold fast to the memories of a life well-lived, knowing that her love will forever remain with us.
