Helem Marie Fennell Little

July 7, 1947 — July 14, 2026

It is with both sadness and a deep sense of celebration for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Helen Marie Fennell Little on July 14, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. Born on July 7, 1947, in Houston, Texas, Helen's journey through life was marked by her unwavering love and compassion for others. Helen was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest Fennell Jr. and Berniece Nevel Fennell Jackson, who guided her early years with love and wisdom. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Carl Ray Fennell, Jessie Lee Fennell, and Ronald Jackson; her sister, Rita Jackson; her beloved grandmothers, Gertrude Peavey and Lola Palmer; grandfathers, Ernest Fennell Jr. and Riley Peavey; her grandchildren Tara Nicole Little, Joseph Lee Barnes, and Tremaine Leon Little; her great-grandchild La'Keisha Annette Little; and her dear daughter-in-law, Bridgette Denise Little. Helen was a nurturing and steadfast presence in the lives of her surviving family members, including her daughters Nikita L. Barnes [Joseph] and Lisa Annette Little [Bernell Hendrickson], and her sons Preston Dewayne Little [Heather], Austin Leon Little [Debra], and Vincent Earl Little [Genice]. She leaves behind a rich legacy embodied by her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her boundless love. She is also survived by her brother, James Earl Fennell, her beloved Aunt Ruby Lee Holmes-Franklin, and a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Helem received her education at the historic George Washington Carver, where she began to cultivate her lifelong passion for helping others. This passion found expression in her career, as she dedicated herself to the care of others, working in various nursing homes in Baytown. Her colleagues and patients alike remember her for her kindness, patience, and tireless dedication. Those who knew Helem will remember her as a beacon of warmth and love, a mother whose nurturing spirit guided her children on the right path and whose heart overflowed with affection for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Mama, you are and truly will be missed until we meet again.
