Hedwig “Heddy” Nelson
January 16, 1936 — June 1, 2026
In loving memory, we celebrate the remarkable life of Hedwig “Heddy” Nelson, who passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on January 16, 1936, in Alfsteadt, Germany, Heddy's journey through life was a testament to her adventurous spirit and unwavering kindness.
Heddy was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Nelson, with whom she shared many years of adventure and love. Together, they built a life rich in memories, raising a beautiful family and dedicating their careers to the unique world of horse racing. For many years, Heddy worked alongside William, training racehorses and ensuring that every stable was not only efficient but aesthetically pleasing, thanks to her exceptional sewing skills.
A devoted mother to her daughters Cindy Nelson, Sandy Hollon, and Karin Quast, Heddy's love and care knew no bounds. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Cody, Martin and Maike who were her pride and joy. A modern-day renaissance woman, Heddy was as comfortable with a garden spade as she was with a parachute, always ready to embrace life’s adventures, from the tranquility of gardening to the thrill of skydiving.
Heddy's heart was as big as her zest for life. Known for her kindness and willingness to help others, she was a beacon of warmth and generosity in her community. Her passion extended beyond her family and work, as she was an ardent supporter of animal welfare. Heddy always had a faithful pup by her side, embodying her lifelong commitment to saving and caring for animals.
A service to honor Heddy's extraordinary life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, located at 178 Center Street W, Britt, Iowa 50423. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering a life well-lived and a woman who truly embraced the world with open arms and a loving heart.

She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we bid her goodbye, we find solace in knowing that God has received a warrior angel.
