In Loving Memory

Hector Yepis, Sr.
August 5, 1934 — October 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Hector Yepis, Sr., who left this world on October 22, 2026. Born on August 5, 1934, in Sonora, Mexico, Hector embodied the warmth and resilience of his heritage throughout his remarkable 92 years.
Hector spent his early years in Tijuana while his father was serving as an American Vice-Consul, and where his family ran various businesses, including a water purification venture, a furniture store, and several restaurants. These formative years instilled in him a strong work ethic and a diverse skill set. After graduating from Chula Vista High School in 1953, Hector was drafted into the U.S. Army's 501st Army Medical Company. He served as a Private First Class from 1957 to 1959, during which time he was stationed in Fulda, Germany. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Renate, in 1958, and thus began a journey that would see them raise a beautiful family.
Following his military service, Hector embarked on a career as a carpenter, framing houses and contributing his craftsmanship to the community for over half a century. His dedication to his trade was paralleled by his commitment to family and friends, whom he often aided with property remodels and upkeep. Hector's work was not limited to construction; he also enjoyed a vibrant life as a bartender for many years.
Hector's legacy is carried forward by his loving children, Heidi (Gil), Hector Jr., Monica, and Debbie (Jon), his cherished grandchildren Jessica, Lindsey (Ryan), Makana, Mana, Tony (Lindsey), Jonathan (Kristel), Cale, and Madison (Marcus), and his precious great-grandchildren Isabella, Emma, Layla, Timothy, and Amira. He was also a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, including Issie (John), Jim (Debbie), Diana (Elias), Mark (Ramazan), Eugene (Teresa), a great-uncle to Marina (Chris), Brianna, Julie (Sam), Jacob, Alexander, and Maximus, and a great-great uncle to Beckett. Hector's family was the centerpiece of his world, and he held each member close to his heart, often bestowing them with affectionate nicknames.
In his leisure time, Hector found joy in hunting quail with his father, playing pool, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, the San Diego Padres and Chargers. His zest for life was evident in his love for old western movies and TV shows, Ancient Aliens, and programs exploring how things were built. Hector's laughter and smile were constants in the lives of those who knew him, and his presence at family gatherings, especially during holidays, was a beloved tradition.
Hector was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 434 for more than 30 years and took pride in his involvement with the VFW. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional and military endeavors, reflecting his deep-seated values of community and camaraderie.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Isabel Yepis, and siblings, Rodrigo and Ofelia, Hector is now reunited with them in peace. His former spouses, Renate (Jose) and Maria Trinidad, also remain part of his story, alongside the enduring friendships and relationships he cherished throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Hector's memory are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choice. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Elizabeth Hospice and the caregivers from Home Instead for their compassionate support before and during Hector's final days. There will be no church or funeral services; however, a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends in January 2027. Announcement to follow.
Hector Yepis, Sr.'s, legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
