Hearthal Wayne "Super Duper" Whitley

January 27, 1941 — July 6, 2026

With profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Hearthal Wayne "Super Duper" Whitley, who went to be with his heavenly father on July 6, 2026. Born on January 27, 1941, in Atascosa, TX, Wayne's life was a testament to faith, family, and community. Wayne was the beloved son of the late Hearthal Jesse Whitley and Elsie Mae (Fuller) Whitley. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother David Edwin Whitley, and sisters Ruby Whitley, Lavern Santor, and Bitsy Belor. Wayne's legacy is carried on by his children: Sharp (Jana) Whitley, Kenny (Jami) Whitley, and Gina Whitley, as well as his cherished sister Pat (Doc) Blakely and Betty Jean Verona. His family also includes a loving multitude of 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, along with countless dear friends who became family through the years. In his professional life, Wayne dedicated himself to his work in the oilfield industry, where he built a career defined by hard work and integrity. His true calling, however, lay in his commitment to his faith and community. Wayne was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Devine, TX, where he was involved with the Medina County Jail ministry during its time of operation. His service to the church was marked by a genuine love for his church family, sharing God's word with all who would listen and living a life of devotion and joy in the Lord. Wayne's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. An avid hunter in his younger years, he found joy in hog hunting with his sons and cheering them on at their football games. In retirement, he found great pleasure in fellowship, often sharing meals with friends and church members, delighting particularly in a hearty ribeye steak and a plain baked potato. His love for sports extended to watching his grandchildren and the children of his close friends and church family play, traveling to their games to show his support and encouragement. Those who knew Wayne will remember him for his unwavering faith and his infectious joy. He was a man who lived his life with a heart full of gratitude, often greeting others with his signature phrase: "I'm Super Duper, blessed and highly favored by God, surrounded by my brothers and sisters in Christ and spoiled rotten by God." His reverence for his Lord and Savior was evident in every aspect of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. A service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held on July 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Devine, TX, located at 308 W Hondo Ave. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Devine Health and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care they provided Wayne in his final days.
