June 18, 1960 — May 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for having been graced by her presence that we announce the passing of Hazel Renee Threlkeld, a cherished daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Hazel departed this world peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and indomitable spirit.
Born on June 18, 1960, in the quaint town of Dyerburg, Tennessee, Hazel was the beloved daughter of the late William Lee and Kathryn (Thurmond) Threlkeld. Her family later moved to the vibrant city of Chicago, where Hazel's journey of life unfolded with rich experiences and countless cherished moments.
Hazel's early education began at O'Keeffe Elementary School and continued at South Shore High School, both nestled on the bustling South Side of Chicago. Driven by her passion for beauty and creativity, Hazel pursued her studies at the renowned Pivot Point International School of Hair and Beauty. Together with her mother, Kathryn, Hazel opened the Magic Shop Beauty Salon, a place where she transformed not only appearances but also the lives of her clients with her magical touch and infectious smile. After two decades of dedication to the hair care industry, Hazel retired, yet her desire to touch lives never waned as she embarked on several new ventures.
Hazel's life was a testament to her exceptional character and boundless compassion. Her larger-than-life personality, radiant smile, and joyous laughter were manifestations of a soul that embraced life with zeal. Her heart, filled with generosity and love, was a beacon of warmth for all who knew her. Her unwavering devotion to her beloved daughter, Mesha D. Threlkeld, was unparalleled, and her love for family and friends was a guiding light in her life.
Hazel is survived by her cherished daughter, Mesha D. Threlkeld, her twin sister, Mildred K. Threlkeld, and her dear sisters, Daphne A. Threlkeld and Kimberly Banks. She also leaves behind her loving brother, Jevon V. Threlkeld, her god-sister, Victoria Rollins, and her adored nieces and nephews: Christopher A. Threlkeld, Fredrick Huddleston and his daughter, Rain Huddleston, Jaylen Threlkeld, Kathryn Huddleston, and Jasmin Banks. Her love extended to her godchildren, Martina Winston, Camale Brown, and Treysaun Smith, who will all continue to carry forward her legacy of compassion and kindness.
The family invites all who wish to celebrate Hazel's life to join them on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM for a memorial service at Leak & Sons Funeral Home, located at 7838 S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60619. Together, we will honor the beautiful life Hazel lived and the love she shared with all of us.
In this time of bereavement, the family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and acknowledge with grateful hearts the countless acts of kindness shown to them. Your support and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength.
Hazel Renee Threlkeld will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her infectious spirit, and her ability to make the world a brighter place. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
