In Loving Memory
Hazel Miller
January 30, 1949 — April 26, 2026
With hearts full of love and a profound sense of loss, the family of Hazel Miller announces her peaceful passing on April 26, 2026, at the age of 77. Hazel was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born on January 30, 1949, in Junction City, Arkansas, Hazel was the cherished daughter of Viney Phillips and Frank Thurmon.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and a number of dear siblings: brothers D.L. Smith, Curtis Cannady, D.C. Cheeks, and C.J. Haynes; and sisters Cora Lee Davis, Catherine Mills, Cee Lee Haynes, Ruby Haynes, and Gray Thurmon. She now joins in peace her beloved grandson, Jacory Candely.
Hazel's legacy continues through the lives of her surviving family, including her siblings Frank Thurmon, Mary Thurmon, Ben Thurmon, and Stephanie Ann Meeks. She is also survived by her loving children: Lorie Ann Redmon, Mark Allen Meeks and his wife Joann Meeks, and Edward Dewyane Meeks. Her god-daughter, Correa Kelsey, was another cherished member of her family.
Hazel's life was enriched by the presence of her grandchildren, each of whom she adored: Roy Meeks, Dalvin Meeks and his wife Lynsey Meeks, Jayce Wolf, Rashad Meeks, Edward Reed, Laquan Redmon, Shavora Meeks, Parnell Redmon, and Marquis Ferguson and his wife Breara Ferguson. She was also blessed with the joy of four great-grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness.
Hazel shared her life with two loving husbands: Lee Otis Meeks, to whom she was married for five years, and later, Henry Miller, with whom she shared a year of marriage.
Those who knew Hazel will remember her as a woman of deep faith and joyous song. She found peace and purpose in her church, where she was a devoted member of a gospel group, spreading inspiration through her passion for singing. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she found solace and camaraderie within her church community. Hazel also enjoyed the thrill and companionship found at the casino, affectionately known as "the boat," where she spent countless hours in the company of friends.
Benevolent and generous, Hazel was a woman who was not afraid to assert herself. Her exceptional intellect and quick wit often left those around her in awe. She held her family close to her heart, despite knowing that her vibrant and sometimes exasperating personality was a source of both joy and challenge for them.
Hazel's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and resilience. Her vibrant spirit could not be tamed, except perhaps by her parole officer, Dalvin, who seemed uniquely capable of matching her vivacity.
Hazel Miller will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, faith, and song will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the joy she brought into our lives and the memories that will forever warm our hearts.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at her cherished church, where friends and family will gather to honor the incredible woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to her church's music ministry, ensuring that her passion for music continues to inspire others as it did her.
Rest in peace, dear Hazel. Your song lives on in our hearts.
