Hazel Mccrea, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away in her home on July 9, 2026, at the age of 104. Born on May 9, 1922, in the serene town of Kingstree, South Carolina, Hazel's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Hazel's journey began in the rolling landscapes of South Carolina, where she graduated from Lincoln Heights in 1939. Shortly thereafter, she married Edgar McCrea, embarking on a beautiful marriage that spanned 38 years until his passing in 1988. Together, they built a loving family, raising 12 children with grace, patience, and an abundance of love.
Her life was marked by her dedication to family, faith, and community. Hazel was a devoted Jehovah's Witness, actively participating in her church and serving her community with a generous heart. Even as her health began to decline, leading her to relocate to Rochester, NY, in 2022, her spirit remained unyielding, and her faith unwavering.
Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edgar McCrea, her sons Charles and Edgar, and her daughter Celestine. She is survived by her sons Ernest, Tommy, Eddie, Norman, and Savanous, and her daughters Elizabeth, Ruth, Gwendolyn, and Barbara. Her legacy lives on through her 32 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her values and love.
Known for her warm smile and kind spirit, Hazel possessed a gentle resilience that touched all who knew her. She was the first to lend a helping hand, a testament to her compassionate nature. Her soft-spoken demeanor and genuine kindness made her a beloved figure in her community and family.
Hazel found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She delighted in spending time with her family, tending to her garden, and embracing each day with a profound sense of gratitude. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of laughter, love, and shared memories.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their compassionate thoughts and prayers during this time. In accordance with Hazel's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of choice, reflecting Hazel's lifelong commitment to helping others and her community.
Hazel McCrea's life was a testament to love, faith, and kindness. Though she has left this world, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
