It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Hazel George Gailliard, affectionately known to many as a beacon of joy and wisdom. Hazel left this world on March 31, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lifelong friendship. Born on November 20, 1931, Hazel's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication, both to his family and his country.
Hazel was a cherished husband to Ella Mae Gailliard, with whom he shared 43 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, a bond that weathered the tests of time with grace and devotion. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, understanding, and shared dreams.
A proud veteran, Hazel served his country with honor in the United States Army. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, as he worked diligently as a union laborer, providing for his family and setting an example of hard work and perseverance.
Hazel's life was a tapestry of vibrant interests and passions. A lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, Football Team, and Commanders, he found joy in the camaraderie of sports, often sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. His ever-present happy demeanor and vast reservoir of knowledge made him a cherished companion, always ready to share a smile or impart wisdom to those around him.
Hazel's legacy is lovingly carried on by his devoted family. He is joining his beloved wife, Ella Mae Gailliard. Was a proud Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather to: Jeffrey Ian Gailliard and his wife Michelle C Gailliard, Carolyn S Sewell, Dangelo A Dunlap, Danny Prince and his wife Tereenia Jessie Prince, Tommy L Prince, Sylvia Gailliard, and Kris Gailliard Woods; and his grandchildren: Tomorrow M Forster, James Leon Woods III, and Christopher Ian Woods. Hazel's joy was further multiplied by his great-grandchildren: Christopher Leon Woods, Amayah Woods, and Alexzander Woods, along with great daughter-in-law Alexza Pena. Each of these family members, numbering eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, carry forward the values and love that Hazel instilled in them.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Harmony Memorial Park, located at 7101 Sheriff Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20785. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Hazel are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, to share stories, and to honor the remarkable man he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Hazel's memory to a charity of choice, as Hazel believed deeply in the power of giving and the impact of kindness.
Hazel George Gailliard will be remembered for his boundless love, his infectious joy, and the indelible mark he left on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
