It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Hattie Powell, who departed this world on May 30, 2026, due to a brain aneurysm in Syracuse, NY. Born on April 16, 1983, in Buffalo, New York, Hattie was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the lives of everyone she encountered.
Hattie was a loving daughter to her predeceased parents, Beatrice and Christopher Powell Sr., and a devoted mother to her surviving children, Jaydia Young, Dynesha Young, and Zy'lik Powell. Her legacy continues through her cherished granddaughters, Jayonna Young, Rae'jour Clemons, and Danijah Jackson. She is survived by her siblings Glynda Jackson, Michael Ellis, Christina Powell (Mike), Malissa Jenkins (Emmanuel), Christopher Powell (Chantel), and Stephanie Powell (Germaine), as well as her bonus sister, Katoya Rheubottom. Hattie was also blessed with the companionship of her significant other, Julian, and the unwavering friendship of Stacy Burgess.
Hattie’s family roots ran deep, and she was predeceased by her beloved sons, Nykim, Anthony, and Antwon Young, her nephew Daquarious Powell, and her brothers, Michael C. and Markeithus Powell, along with other dear family members. Yet, her spirit remains vibrant in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her children’s father, Dock Young, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever miss her warm presence.
A proud product of Syracuse schools, Hattie dedicated her professional life to serving others, most recently as a cherished employee of the Comfort Inn Hotel. Her work was more than a job; it was a testament to her unwavering commitment to helping people, a passion that defined her life. Hattie had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.
Music was a constant companion to Hattie, filling her life with joy and solace. She found immense happiness in spending time with family and friends, creating memories that would be treasured by all. Her laughter was infectious, her kindness boundless.
A celebration of Hattie’s life will be held on June 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Well Of Hope Church, located at 1640 South Avenue. Family, friends, and all who knew Hattie are invited to come together to honor her memory and celebrate the love she so generously shared.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone who reached out with words of comfort, acts of kindness, and shared memories during this difficult time. Your support has been a source of strength, and we are profoundly appreciative.
