It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch, Hattie L. Powell, on April 5, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on September 19, 1934, in the vibrant city of Memphis, Tennessee, Hattie was a beacon of love and strength to her family and community.
Hattie was the cherished daughter of the late Willie and Gladys Streeter. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Nathan Powell, with whom she shared a beautiful union that began on August 23, 1950. Together, they built a legacy of love and resilience, raising their family with unwavering dedication and grace.
Hattie was preceded in death by her devoted children Tyrone Powell and Nathan Powell Jr., her sisters Louise Longstreet and Laura Loving, and her brothers William Palmer, Samuel Glover, and Willie Streeter Jr. She now rests alongside them, reunited in eternal peace.
Her life was a testament to the power of faith and community. Hattie was an active member of the Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, where she found joy and purpose in serving her congregation and sharing her unwavering faith. Her spiritual journey was an inspiration to all who knew her and a guiding light for her family.
Hattie's legacy is carried on by her surviving children: Arnette Bolden (James), Debra Green, Leroy, Jerry Powell (Sandra), Rosalind Mosley (Maurice), and Ron Yancy (Christie). Her family expanded to include 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and wisdom she imparted. Her sister-in-law, Bernice Streeter, and a host of nieces and nephews also share in the sorrow of her passing while celebrating the joy she brought to their lives.
Hattie was blessed with friendships that spanned decades. Her special friends Mary Garner and Henrene Coffee were constant companions, sharing in laughter, tears, and the simple joys of life. Their friendship was a source of strength and comfort, a testament to the enduring bonds Hattie cherished.
Hattie's kindness, compassion, and strength will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love was a guiding force, her wisdom a comforting presence, and her laughter a melody that will echo in the hearts of her family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Hattie, we honor the remarkable life she led and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear, and her love will continue to guide us.
