Obituary for Hattie Allen Peters
May 18, 1946 - April 12, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Hattie Allen Peters, who embarked on her heavenly journey on April 12, 2026. Born in the rolling hills of Pikeville, KY, on May 18, 1946, Hattie was a cherished daughter of the late Ferrell Allen and Bessie Robinette. Her life, graced with warmth and compassion, was a testament to her enduring spirit and unwavering love for family and community.
Hattie was a beacon of kindness and a profound embodiment of the phrase, “You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl.” Her roots in Brushy Creek and Varney, nestled in the mountains of Pike County, KY, were the foundation of her life. Even after attending Morehead State University, marrying, and relocating to Ohio, Hattie’s heart remained steadfastly tethered to her Kentucky heritage. Whether it was through her southern accent, her culinary preferences, or her music choices, her pride in her origins was ever-present.
Family was the cornerstone of Hattie’s life. Following the untimely passing of her father, she shared a particularly strong bond with her mother, which she cherished deeply. Her role as a mother to her beloved children, Kristy Hall (Scott Hall), Kelly Peters (Corrynn Peters), and Steve Peters, brought her immense joy. The echoes of laughter and love from her six grandchildren, Caleb, Ben, Elizabeth, Olivia, Evelyn, and the affectionate names Bebe and Grammy, were her greatest treasures.
Hattie was predeceased by her parents, stepfather Tobie Robinette, and siblings Elon Smith, George Allen, Lois Robinette, and Donnie Allen. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her surviving children, grandchildren, nieces Susie Williamson and Carolyn Hurlburt, nephews Dale Williamson and Robbie Allen, alongside numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Her nearly five-decade-long residence in Springfield, OH, was marked by vibrant community involvement and cherished friendships. A member of Southgate Baptist Church, Hattie’s welcoming demeanor ensured she never met a stranger. Her ability to engage with others, to truly know them, and make them feel valued was a gift she shared generously. Her work at Logos Christian Bookstore was more than a job; it was a ministry. For ten years, her smile and encouragement brightened countless lives, and her knack for helping customers find the ideal book or gift was unmatched.
In 2017, Hattie relocated to Wilmore, KY, to be closer to her family. Despite battling health challenges, including surgeries and a car accident, she faced every obstacle with grace. Her faith in God was unwavering, and now she rests in her eternal home, free from suffering and pain.
Hattie will be laid to rest in her family cemetery, overlooking the cherished landscape of her childhood. A viewing will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Nicholasville, KY, on Friday, April 17, from 4 - 6 pm. A private family graveside service will follow on Saturday morning in Varney, KY.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the friends, caregivers, and staff at Baptist Health Hospital for their compassionate care and support over the past few years. Hattie’s legacy of love and kindness will forever illuminate the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made in Hattie’s memory to support community and literacy programs in Kentucky.
