Harry Junior Smith

Harry Junior Smith, aged 74, passed away peacefully at home in the loving presence of his family on August 23, 2026. Born on April 21, 1952, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Harry was the cherished son of the late George Henry Smith and Gladys Merle Savage. Harry's life was a testament to service, dedication, and love. A graduate of Brownsville Area High School, he further committed himself to the service of his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and thereafter serving in the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania. Following his honorable service, Harry embarked on a successful career as a welder before finding his true calling as a prominent electrician in the Washington, PA area—a profession he embraced with skill and passion until retirement. Harry was predeceased by his beloved spouses, Lydia Brewer Smith and Pamela Rose Ardeno Smith, and his dear daughter, Vanessa Dawn Bowser. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Virginia Friend, Mary Lou Miller, Betty Zewinsky, Samuel George Smith, Harold DeBerry, Jack DeBerry, Stanley Ray Smith, and Sarah Gladys Smith Rockwell. He leaves behind a loving family to treasure his memory: his devoted significant other, Martha J. Shaw; his son Timothy R. Bowser and girlfriend Sandy Shaffer; daughter Jenifer A. Swihart; step-son Brent Bowser; step-daughter Mindy Michniak and husband Daniel Michniak; and his cherished grandson, Wyatt McDonald. Harry is also survived by his siblings Cecil Alan Smith, Paul Jones Smith, Ella Mae McCourt and her husband Mike McCourt, and Dora Victoria Brownfield and her husband Robert Brownfield, as well as his niece Gladys Merle Hlatky and her husband John Hlatky. He will be fondly remembered by his close friend and caregiver, Rachel A. Fordyce, along with many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Harry was deeply involved in his community, contributing his time and energy to his local church and various voluntary services. His hobbies brought joy to his life and those around him, whether he was casting a line while fishing with his brothers, enjoying a round of golf, or traveling to casinos with family and friends for a bit of fun and adventure. Those who had the privilege of knowing Harry will forever remember him for his immense kindness, his unwavering compassion, and the boundless love he shared with everyone. His ability to connect with others ensured that no one was ever a stranger, and his willingness to lend a hand where needed left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. His unforgettable smile and generous spirit made the world a brighter place. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harry's life at a service to be held on August 27, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, located at 134 W. Church St., Fairchance, PA 15436. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Harry's memory to a charitable organization of your choice, reflecting Harry's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
