Harry E. (John) White
December 26, 1928 — October 19, 1995
Harry E. (John) White, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 1995, at the age of 66. Born on December 26, 1928, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Harry was a cherished son of the late Wiley F. (Bud) and Blanche E. Tiller White. He was predeceased by his dear brother, George (Bub) White, and his beloved sister, Donna White Paxton.
Harry's early years were marked by a deep-rooted connection to the great outdoors that surrounded his upbringing in Round Mountain, Nevada, Bodie, California, and Hawthorne. It was in these places that he developed a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing, pursuits he would come to share with family and friends over countless trips, creating memories that would be cherished for generations.
In 1945, at the tender age of 17, Harry proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor until 1947. Upon returning home, he embarked on a career at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot and later at the Hawthorne Army Depot, dedicating himself to civil service until his retirement in 1980. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he continued to lend his expertise to Day and Zimmermann/Basil until health concerns prompted his retirement in 1992.
On April 18, 1952, Harry married the love of his life, Mary Ann Hermansen, in a union that spanned 43 beautiful years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a family characterized by warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
Harry is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann, and their three loving children: Debbie Carone and her husband Tony, John White and his wife Tracey, and Susan McConnell and her husband Michael. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 28 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Harry's legacy is one of love, dedication, and unyielding spirit. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life—casting a line into a still lake, trekking through the woods in search of game, and sharing tales with family and friends by the fireside. He taught those around him the value of perseverance, integrity, and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Harry's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure that will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private service will be held to honor Harry's life, celebrating the man who was a steadfast husband, dedicated father, and treasured friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Harry's memory, ensuring that his spirit of generosity continues to touch lives.
Harry E. (John) White will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. As we say goodbye, we hold close the memories of a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
