It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Harriett Elizabeth Skilling, who departed this world on June 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Harriett was a beacon of love and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on May 20, 1940, in the quaint town of Belvidere, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of Doris and Robert Rands. Harriett's life was a testament to love, family, and community. She was predeceased by her loving parents, her sister Helen Rands, and brother Richard Rands. She is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, Douglas Skilling, with whom she shared a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they built a warm home where they raised their children Sandra (William) Stockwell, Mike (Julie) Skilling, Cris Skilling, and Connie Skilling. Harriett was also a beloved aunt to Mike (Hannah) and Jamie (Will), and Amber. Harriett's legacy is beautifully carried on by her 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored beyond measure. She was a graduate of Belvedere High School, class of 1958, and went on to work at Chrysler for 15 years. After retiring, Harriett dedicated her time to her church, embracing her community with the same warmth and generosity that defined her life. A woman of many talents, Harriett was an avid baker, known for filling her home with the comforting aroma of freshly baked goods. She delighted in decorating for the holidays, creating magical memories for her grandchildren. Her passion for gardening reflected her nurturing spirit, as she lovingly tended to her plants and flowers, much like she did with her family and friends. Harriett's warm smile and welcoming hugs were her signature, and she possessed a heart of gold. Her wisdom, kindness, and generosity were gifts to all who knew her. She had an uncanny ability to say just the right thing, offering comfort and guidance with grace and compassion. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Harriett's extraordinary life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at UW Hospital, who provided exemplary care during her final days. In celebrating Harriett's life, we remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind. Though she has departed from this earth, Harriett's spirit will forever reside in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
