In Loving Memory

Harold Poast Jr, Butch
August 31, 1943 — April 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Harold "Butch" Poast Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on April 30, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on August 31, 1943, in the heartland of Kearney, Nebraska, Butch was the beloved son of Harold and Jennie Poast. His was a life marked by devotion to family, a passion for craftsmanship, and an unwavering curiosity about his heritage and the world around him.
Butch's journey took him from the halls of Edgewood High School in Madison, Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1961, to the bustling corridors of the University of Wisconsin. Though his formal education was brief, his thirst for knowledge and skill in carpentry led him to a fulfilling career with the Anthony Grignano Construction Company starting in 1965. Over the years, Butch's hands built not only structures but also lasting friendships and a legacy of dedication and hard work.
A man of rich character, Butch was a proud member of the Sons of Norway, a community that connected him to his roots. His travels to Norway were not just journeys across the seas but voyages into the past, where he sought connections to relatives from generations before. His love for history was matched only by his joy for life's simpler pleasures—spending countless hours ice fishing, ever hopeful for the catch of a lifetime, and nurturing a deep appreciation for old street rods and antique cars, tokens of a bygone era that he cherished deeply.
Butch’s enduring love and legacy are carried on by his children: Tracy Sims and her husband David of Alpharetta, Georgia; Andy Poast of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; and Cory Poast of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. He is further survived by his dear sisters, Kathleen Stark of Loudon, Tennessee, and Diana of Poynette, Wisconsin, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. His grandchildren, Savannah, Aiden, Nathan, and Ryan, were lights in his life, and he was immensely proud of each of them.
In addition to his immediate family, Butch was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Jennie Poast, and his siblings, Linda and David, whose spirits he now joins in eternal peace.
A service to honor and celebrate Butch's life will be held at Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin, where family and friends will gather to share stories and remember the warmth and generosity of a man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, an organization that reflects Butch’s values of service and community.
As we say goodbye to Butch, we remember a life filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy of kindness. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him.
