Born in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California, on July 29, 1946, Harold was the cherished son of Robert and Corine Tyler. He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved sister, Deborah Tyler. Harold's life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. After graduating from Compton High School in 1964, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Army in 1966. His time in the Army, followed by his service in the Army Reserves until 1977, was marked by honor and commitment. Harold's military discipline and leadership were evident throughout his civilian career and personal life. In 1970, Harold married the love of his life, Loretta Tyler. Their union was blessed with four children—Leslie, Celestine, Shawishi, and Hashim—who were the center of Harold's world. He was a devoted father and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Michelle, Justin, Damone, and Jadyn, who brought immense joy to his life. Harold pursued his passion for education and mentorship by joining El Camino College as an Assistant Basketball Coach from 1973 to 1975. He continued his journey at the college as a Student Activities Specialist in 1975 and later earned a BA in Business Administration: Management from Dominguez Hills University in 1988. His dedication to student development was recognized when he became the Director of Student Development, a position he held with distinction until 2011. An active minister at Double Rock Baptist Church, Harold's faith and generosity touched many lives. His love for sports, especially baseball and basketball, was contagious, and he was known for his enthusiastic support of his favorite football team, the Raiders. A true Renaissance man, Harold also found joy in reading, writing, and spending time with his family. Harold is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, and siblings—Bruce, Robert, Roslyn, and Debra. His legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Elete Funerals and Cremation Center of California Mortuary Staff, Church, and Vista Del Mar Assistant Living for their compassionate care and support. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Harold's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Harold's memory to a charity or organization that supports education or veteran services, reflecting his lifelong commitment to these causes. Harold Lloyd Tyler's profound impact on his family, community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him will be cherished forever. His life was a blessing, and his memory will remain a guiding light.
