In Loving Memory of Harold Maurice Ewin
June 11, 1960 - December 8, 2025
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Harold Maurice Ewin, who departed from this world on December 8, 2025. Born in the vibrant city of Memphis, Tennessee, on June 11, 1960, Harold was a beacon of warmth, humor, and resilience.
Harold was the cherished son of Harold William Ewin and Lucille Humes Fennell. Though preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lucille, Harold is survived by a family that adored him deeply. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 32 years, Denise Taylor Ivery, whom he married on December 31, 1994. Their journey together was a tapestry of love, faith, and laughter, woven with shared experiences of life's ups and downs.
Harold was a proud graduate of Hamilton High School and dedicated 26 years of his life to traversing the open roads as an over-the-road truck driver before his retirement. His hands, however, were not idle in retirement, as he was a man of many talents. A true jack of all trades, Harold was known as the "Barbeque King," finding joy in creating BBQ grills and sharing his culinary delights with friends and family. An avid fisherman, he found solace in the quiet of nature, casting his line with patience and hope. His love for gardening mirrored his love for nurturing those around him.
Yet, it was football that truly captured his heart. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Harold's passion for the game was infectious, and his enthusiasm never waned. Music, too, was a lifelong companion, resonating with his soul and bringing rhythm to his days.
Known for his silly jokes and quick wit, Harold was the life of every party. His alter ego, Apollo Sand Man, brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him. As a DJ, he had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome, ensuring that fun was always on the agenda.
Harold's legacy is carried on by his siblings, Tyjuana Luckey, Terry Ewin, and Tierra Hill, who remember him with love and admiration. His spirit lives on in his nephew, Leonardo Ewin, nieces Wakeya Luckey and Dementria Alridge, and second nephews and nieces, Chris, Talvin, Courtney, Jr Ewin, and Laila. His cousin, James Davis, and family-like brothers and sisters, Brad, Virginia, and Lynn, will forever cherish his memory.
Though Harold did not have children of his own, he was a loving stepfather to Denise's children, George IV, DeNelle, Jerraile, and Rahshae Ivery, who will miss his guidance and warmth. His heart extended to all of Denise's nine grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Harold faced numerous health challenges with courage and dignity, particularly his battle with diabetes, which led to years of dialysis treatments. Despite these struggles, his decision to refuse resuscitation was a testament to his strength and acceptance of life's natural course.
As we bid farewell to Harold, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He taught us the importance of embracing joy, even in the face of adversity. Harold's spirit will forever be etched in our hearts, a reminder of the power of love, laughter, and a life lived with unwavering passion.
A celebration of Harold's life will be held in Memphis, where friends and family will gather to honor the remarkable man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Harold's memory, continuing his legacy of kindness and generosity.
Rest in peace, dear Harold. Your laughter echoes in our hearts, and your love remains our guiding light.
