Harold J. Kornfuhrer

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Harold J. Kornfuhrer, who departed this world peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 77, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. His passing marks the conclusion of a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, and the legacy he leaves behind will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Harold was born on October 3, 1948, in Victoria, Texas, to Doug and Alice Kornfuhrer. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his brother, Kenneth Kornfuhrer of Portland, Texas. Harold carried forward his family’s proud German and Czech heritage, which was a cornerstone of his identity and an inspiration to his large extended family. Devoted husband to Vicki Nelson Kornfuhrer, Harold’s marriage of 57 years was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they embarked on a journey that took them to many places including Hattiesburg, MS; Oxford, MS; Vicksburg, MS; Slaton, Texas; Texas City, Texas; Arlington, Texas; Tupelo, MS; Fulton, MS; and Ocean Springs, MS. Their travels were filled with shared adventures and countless friends, neighbors, and colleagues who enriched their lives. Harold was a proud father to his two children, Holly Roberts Hovey and Kevin Kornfuhrer, and a cherished grandfather to Nichole Roberts, Balor Roberts, Ella Kornfuhrer, and Eden Kornfuhrer. His love and wisdom will forever remain a guiding light in their lives. A scholar of great distinction, Harold completed his pre-pharmacy requirements at the University of Southern Mississippi and was accepted into the Pharmacy School at The University of Mississippi in 1970. He graduated in 1973 at the top of his class, serving as Senior Class President and earning numerous academic awards. His dedication to education and the field of pharmacy was further demonstrated by his distinguished 44-year career. Harold made significant contributions through his work with HPI, Omnicare, Methodist Hospital Dallas, North MS Medical Center, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, among others. His roles as Area Director, Pharmacy Director, Service Line Administrator, and Lead Surveyor for Accreditation showcased his commitment to excellence and leadership. Harold was also dedicated to service, having been part of the ROTC program at the University of Southern Mississippi and later receiving the United States civilian Army achievement medal. His involvement in his community was evident through his active membership at St. Paul Ocean Springs and his role as a Stephen Minister and teacher. A man of diverse interests, Harold found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about gardening, diving, and spending time by the water. He and his family often embarked on vacations filled with swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and boating. Alongside Vicki, he loved exploring new bicycle trails, fostering a spirit of adventure and discovery. Known for his unwavering commitment to work and teaching, Harold’s daily presence was marked by a warm smile and an encouraging word. He was a mentor and a friend, always willing to lend a hand or embrace new ideas for improvement. His favorite moments were spent by the beach, listening to the waves, and expressing gratitude for each day and every person in his life. In honor of Harold’s life, his family requests that donations be made to St. Paul Ocean Springs, the local chapter of the ASPCA, or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Foundation, in lieu of flowers. A private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the beautiful extended family of Migls, whose support helped Harold live a life filled with love and faith. As they mourn his loss, they also celebrate the remarkable man he was, holding tightly to the memories and lessons he imparted. Harold J. Kornfuhrer will be remembered with love and admiration. His spirit, kindness, and dedication to others will continue to inspire all those who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever cherished in our hearts.
