Harold Francis Barwick

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Francis Barwick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Harold departed from this world on May 25, 2026, at his home in Roswell, New Mexico. Born on September 20, 1946, in Sumter, South Carolina, Harold lived a life rich in love, laughter, and service to others. The son of the late Francis Levi (Ike) and Evelyn Kolb Barwick, Harold was raised in a household that valued community and connection. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his cherished brothers, Daniel (Danny) and Kenneth (Kenny) Barwick, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. Harold graduated from Furman High School in Sumter, South Carolina, in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. His service took him to Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico, and Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he forged lifelong friendships and developed a deep sense of duty and commitment. After his military service, Harold dedicated himself to law enforcement, serving as the Chief of Police in Pinewood, South Carolina, and as a police officer in the Sumter Police Department in Sumter, SC. His career path then led him to the open roads, where he worked as a truck driver for many years in South Carolina before returning to Roswell in 2007. Harold concluded his professional journey with Groendyke Transport in Artesia, New Mexico, retiring in 2021. In his personal life, Harold was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, never missing a race on television. He found joy and freedom in riding his motorcycle, and his quick wit and humor made him a beloved figure wherever he went. Known for his contagious laughter, Harold truly never met a strange. Harold leaves behind a loving family. His wife, Winona K. Barwick of Roswell, New Mexico, His sons, David Barwick of Roswell, New Mexico, and Richard Barwick (Michelle) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his step-son, Kevin Trombla (Sandra) of Roswell, New Mexico; a daughter, Lindsey Overby (Robert) of Sumter, South Carolina and sister, Ann Springfield, Maning, South Carolina. Eight grandchildren: Jordan Barwick (Magan), Raquelle Barwick, Gavin Trombla (Kayla), Adrianna Shamas, Nathaniel Trombla, Talan Trombla, Mack Overby, and Riggs Overby. Five great grandchildren Avery Barwick, Emma Barwick, Aria Ornelas, Jeremiah Perales and Nevaeh Perales, numerous nieces and nephews, in addition to his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, held a special place in his heart. Graveside services are pending in Pinewood, South Carolina, at the Pinewood Cemetery where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and bid farewell. . In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Harold's name to Special Olympics New Mexico-Roswell, P.O. Box 4657, Roswell, NM 88202, an organization close to his heart. Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory of Roswell, New Mexico and Stephen’s Funeral Home of Manning South Carolina is in charge of arrangements As we say goodbye to Harold, we carry forward the lessons he imparted: to meet each day with humor and embrace strangers as friends. He will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by his family and friends.
